Three Reasons Why Women of Color Matter in the Midterms

With less than a month until the Midterms, She the People is working around the clock to build our collective power for women of color at this critical moment in our country. As it stands, our nation is at a crossroads with our basic freedoms, families, and futures under constant attack by MAGA Republicans aimed at dividing us.

This Election Day, November 8th, we have to fight for a better future for us all. As women of color, there is so much we can do to strengthen our democracy in these last weeks. The midterms are our chance to unite together in solidarity and vote to protect our freedoms.

This November, women of color hold the power to move us forward. Here are three reasons why your vote matters in the midterms:

  1. Our votes are powerful. In 2020, women of color turned out in record numbers to vote and mobilized voters for key wins in battleground states like Georgia, Pennsylvania, and Michigan. We are the largest growing voter bloc than any other group in the country, so it’s time to show up for our families and communities once again. As you head to the polls, remember to bring a family member or friend.

  2. There are women of color candidates who need your support this year. From Florida to Texas, to Ohio and Georgia, women of color are running in elections in record numbers to fight for our rights, benefits, and freedoms. We have the power to elect women of color candidates who will know and will take action on our issues, Join us for our upcoming social media event on October 26 to learn more–details to come! You can also share our candidates stories using #SheWillWin across social media.

  3. Our freedoms are at stake. While the vision has always been a fully multiracial democracy, where we have the opportunity to vote, the freedom to decide if and when we grow our families, and the freedom for our families to thrive, the reality is that Republicans want just the opposite. They want to control our bodies, use violence to keep us from the polls and block the very policies supporting our communities. This November, you have a choice. Choose to fight for our freedoms.

Women of color have accomplished so much together–we can’t afford to let our foot off the gas now. Each of us needs to show up like never before to vote for a safer and more equitable democracy where we can not just survive but thrive.
