STEP INTO YOUR POWER: DIGITAL TOOLKIT

2. PICK YOUR CAUSE: Decide what you are passionate about and find solutions.

With all the challenges and issues our communities face, it can feel overwhelming to decide what matters most to you. So many of the issues we care about are intersectional – safe and affordable housing, gender-based violence, reproductive justice, and food insecurity to name a few – all of which require time, investment, and the best minds to develop solutions, including the minds of women of color.

Far too often, our perspectives are minimized in the conversations and decisions around the issues that impact our daily lives. Yet, women of color are the most powerful key to transforming our democracy. Our voices, perspectives, and votes need to be heard.

Learning about the issues impacting our families and communities is also how we show care for each other and stay connected. It is also our right and privilege to get involved in and fight for the issues we care about in this country at every level. We know there is so much work to be done, but even taking one small step is a step in the right direction.

To help you get started:

  • Think about the conditions in your community and what needs to change. What challenge or issue speaks to you? What do you want to fight for?

  • Do your research. Find out as much as you can about the issue online,  in the news, or by talking to people in your community. Who is impacted by this issue? Who is organizing on this issue? Set up informational interviews to ask questions and listen.

  • Brainstorm solutions. What is possible? Brainstorm possible solutions, then narrow down to 1-2 solutions that would make the most impact.
